Elevated blood sugar levels in people with diabetes cause lasting changes to the skin: the activity of their sweat and sebaceous glands is reduced, causing the skin to become dry, flaky and cracked. Urea is a metabolic product that occurs on healthy human skin. It is one of the so-called natural moisturising factors (NMF) of the skin and ensures an improved water-binding capacity. This is further enhanced by the combination with another active ingredient, glycerine. This combination of active ingredients is rounded off by the ingredient lactic acid, which, like urea, is a component of the skin’s natural moisturising system.
